Santee Term Limits Initiative Petition will Circulate

Santee, Ca — A Notice of Intent to Circulate a Petition for the Santee Term Limits Initiative was filed today by Van Collinsworth, Preserve Wild Santee’s Geographer/Director and Santee City Councilman Stephen Houlahan. The submission follows submission of the Santee General Plan Protection Initiative NOI submitted by us on Friday, April 6.

The Santee Term Limits Initiative requires that no person shall serve more than 12 years, or three four-year terms as a member of the Santee City Council, with any portion of a term, whether by election or appointment, counting as a full term. The term limits are applicable to candidates elected on November 6, 2018 and candidates who run for future election.

Santee City Councilman Stephen Houlahan stated, "I was elected on a platform favoring term limits. Providing the Santee Term Limits Initiative to the people for a vote fulfills my campaign commitment on this issue. It will keep elections competitive enough to encourage a meaningful discussion of issues at every election and allow enough time to develop experience."

“The people need a way to be heard amongst the thunderous expectations of big money players. The Save Santee Initiatives, in synergy with the Save San Diego Countryside Initiative, are intended to provide the people with a voice that is audible to elected officials,"  Collinsworth said.

We want to save Santee and our region from traffic gridlock. We want to save Santee’s General Plan and open spaces. We want to slow climate breakdown. The Santee Term Limits, Santee General Plan Protection and Save San Diego Countryside Initiatives are essential tools to accomplish that mission.

The Save Santee Initiatives will both require 3,219 valid signatures to qualify for the November 2018 ballot.

Houlahan...continues to be concerned about worsening traffic for already tough commutes...has consistently cast the lone council vote against a steady stream of developments, often citing a need for improved traffic planning.
